What Is Juvederm Hyaluronic Acid?

The biggest feature of Juvederm is its patented Vycross™ cross-linking technology, which gives the hyaluronic acid high spreadability, low swelling and a longer-lasting structure. Compared with traditional hyaluronic acid, Vycross technology causes less swelling after injection, shapes more naturally, can last 12 to 18 months or more, and reduces the number of touch-ups.

Juvéderm is a premium hyaluronic acid brand developed and manufactured by the well-known American pharmaceutical company Allergan. It is widely used in many countries and has been approved by the US FDA, the EU's CE mark and Taiwan's Ministry of Health and Welfare. It is the Louis Vuitton of the hyaluronic acid world.

Juvederm also offers several products designed for different areas (such as Voluma, Volift, Volux and Volite), which allow fine sculpting of each region of the face, from hydration and filling hollows to contour lifting. It is one of the most representative long-lasting hyaluronic acid brands in the aesthetic market.

What Are the Juvederm Types?

Juvederm has five types, from the largest molecule, Volux, to the smallest, Volite, a complete range of molecule sizes suited to different areas. For example, Volux is best for Juvederm chin, and Volite is best for Juvederm tear trough.

Where Is Juvederm Best Used?

The short answer: on the market, Juvederm costs roughly NT$13,000–18,000 per 1 cc. Common prices by area are summarized in the table below.

Juvederm is a gel-type hyaluronic acid with a fine structure and smooth texture. Compared with traditional particle-type hyaluronic acid, it spreads and blends better. Its biggest advantage is its uniform gel structure, which fits naturally into the tissue after injection and reduces graininess and the chance of migration.

As a gel-type filler, Juvederm is especially suited to areas that need a smooth, natural look, such as the chin, lips, apple cheeks, hollow cheeks and tear trough. Juvederm is not well suited to the nasal base, because the gel tends to make it look wider.

Is Juvederm Good for the Chin?

The golden Juvederm chin combination: Juvederm Volux for the chin tip + Juvederm Voluma for the jawline

Juvederm Volux

For chin filler I recommend at least 2 cc. The reason is that after 1 cc is used on the chin tip, if the jawline is not refined, it is easy to end up with a pointy "awl-shaped" face where the chin does not blend smoothly into the rest of the face.

Is Juvederm Good for the Tear Trough?

Juvederm Volite
Juvederm Volite: an extra-small molecule that is less likely to form caterpillars (lumpy ridges) in the tear trough

This golden tear trough combination can easily last a year and a half to two years. Large-molecule fillers from all brands perform about the same, but Volite is the finest and longest-lasting hyaluronic acid I have used, and it is less likely to cause caterpillars in the tear trough.

Is Juvederm Good for Hollow Cheeks?

Juvederm Volift
Juvederm Volift, suited to lips and hollow cheeks

If the cheeks are severely hollow, Sculptra and AestheFill do last the longest. But the biggest drawback of collagen stimulators is that it is hard to control how much and where they grow, so many people find that after Sculptra or AestheFill nothing grew, or the contour that grew is not smooth.

If you want an immediate filling effect for hollow cheeks, or want to smooth the contour after a collagen stimulator, I most recommend Juvederm Volift. The result looks more natural, with no risk of nodules or unpredictable growth.

Right after a collagen stimulator injection, it is like scattering a handful of seeds without knowing which will sprout and grow collagen, so many people feel the hollow-cheek contour is never quite smooth in some spots. Hyaluronic acid for hollow cheeks avoids this problem by smoothing the hollow directly at the time. Juvederm Volift has a moderate molecule size, so it does not feel stiff in the hollow cheeks, and it can last more than a year.

Is Juvederm Good for Lip Filler?

Juvederm Volbella

Juvederm for lips is the brand I recommend most among all lip fillers. Every person suits a different lip shape, and it has different types for shaping different lips. More importantly, Juvederm is more moldable, so it is easier to shape the lips you want.

Elegant lips: Juvederm Volbella. For those who simply want more lip volume, with the most natural feel and little sense of a foreign object.

Sexy lips and pouty lips: Juvederm Volift creates special lip shapes, such as a smile line or a cupid's bow peak.

Is Juvederm Good for Nasolabial Folds, Temples and Apple Cheeks?

Juvederm Voluma

For these areas I do not insist on Juvederm. Large-molecule fillers from every brand perform reasonably well, but Juvederm lasts a bit longer. If budget allows, you can choose Juvederm Voluma for the nasolabial folds, temples or apple cheeks.

How Much Is 1 cc of Juvederm?

Juvederm is, after all, the Louis Vuitton of hyaluronic acid, so its price is relatively high. On the market, Juvederm costs roughly NT$13,000 – 18,000 per 1 cc.

How Long Does Juvederm Last?

The five Juvederm types suit different areas, and longevity varies with molecule size. According to research statistics, Juvederm Volux can last more than 18 months.

What Are the Side Effects of Juvederm?

An expensive brand is not automatically better. Because Juvederm is a gel-type filler, it easily widens the nasal base over time, and on the forehead it tends to cause the memory-foam effect (when you press your forehead it sinks in like a memory foam pillow). So for these two areas I actually recommend the Korean particle-type hyaluronic acid V50.

For details on which fillers suit the forehead, see: https://goldiapple.com/ellanse-forehead/

Also, like all brands of hyaluronic acid, Juvederm carries a certain chance of allergy, with repeated swelling during menstruation or colds after injection. If an allergic reaction occurs, you can take antiallergy medication or return to the original clinic to have it dissolved.
